General description
Radiological Protection aims to reduce the radiation dose to which certain people are exposed to. To this effect, this discipline has three well-known instruments: reduction in the exposure time, increase of the distance to the radiation source and shielding.
Lead is an excellent shielding against electromagnetic radiation (gamma and X-rays) due to its density of 11.33 g/cm3, high atomic number, degree of stability and also because it is so easy to work with. From an economic point of view, its availability and cost make it very attractive in comparison with other elements that have a similar density.
Formats
STANDARD formats are the following: |
|
The lead sheet of 5 x 1 m is delivered on pallet and rolled up like a carpet.
CUSTOM-MADE FORMATS also available
Composition
Lead sheets comply with European standard EN12588, stating that minimum Pb content is 99.77%.
Certification
At the customer’s request, we can provide our clients with the appropriate Quality Certificate.
Lead strips
In order to provide adequate protection, lead sheets must be overlapped to avoid any unprotected space against radiation. A widely accepted solution is to use butt joint sheets and overlay a lead strip covering the joint between both sheets.
